The Port manager oversees the Central Compound VPC operations, ensuring the effective management of the PDS (Pre-Delivery Service), PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspection), and additional preparations for Polestar vehicles. The goal is to guarantee that customer cars meet the required quality and technical standards before they are handed over. The PDS/PDI process is a crucial part of the logistics chain, bridging the gap between the factory and the final delivery to customers.
This position is in Zeebrugge / Belgium where most of the vehicles are processed for the European markets and will support and oversee operations in other markets like e.g. Bristol / UK were similar activities are managed. The person will manage a number or 3rd party Service providers. The Port manager will have a close collaboration with 1) Polestar logistics regarding logistics priorities and prerequisites, 2) Aftermarket to be informed about spare parts and extras and 3) Quality team to manage quality campaigns and collect data from the operations.
What you'll do
- Plan and oversee the PDS/PDI work, ensuring it aligns with agreed lead times, capacity, and quality standards. Technicians can be either internal (PS) or third-party.
- Manage third-party service providers contracted for technical work, including:
- Ensuring processes that guarantee high-quality technical operations.
- Overseeing systems that manage cars and activities (a mix of service provider and Polestar applications).
- Ensuring and continuously improving technician competence.
- Managing capacity in line with required volumes.
- Review new instructions from global VPC process owner or the quality team. Analyze the new processes in terms of time, cost, capability, quality, and authorization. Provide sign-off and approval processes/instructions based on this analysis.
- Drive continuous improvement based on KPI scorecards and best practices. Measure performance and take corrective actions as needed.
- For technical issues (e.g., QB, damages), coordinate repairs with HQ and service providers.
- Ensure technicians log all items properly in required systems (e.g., Proact, QB, TIE) and advance the development of workshop/maintenance systems.
- Manage ordering and installation of extras, accessories, and parts for repairs.
- Ensure proper execution of car maintenance programs where applicable.
- Interact daily with partners and stakeholders like quality, logistics operations, and customer service.
- Perform regular quality audits of PDI/PDS activities and evaluate results.
- Contact support groups (e.g., customer service, help desk) to resolve technical challenges.
- Ensure technical procedures and diagnostics are applied, and support complex repairs, delivering solutions with technicians.
- Set and approve budgets in line with contractual rates and planned volumes. Review and approve third-party payments.
- Supervise administrative tasks, including closing work orders, filing incident reports and claims
- Maintain and update detailed workshop instructions, ensuring compliance.
- Ensure all documentation is completed and filed for future reference.
- Work with stakeholders and internal customers to identify and incorporate quality improvement opportunities into PDI/PDS processes.
- Support the Head of Logistics on PDI/PDS and technical service projects, including future locations.
- Ensure all equipment is maintained and available.
- Plan and attend workshop trainings provided by Polestar to repair partners.
- Manage coordination with third-party if need of heavy repair outside port
Who you are
- Minimum 5 years work experience in PDI or PDS operations or in other technical jobs related to vehicles like diagnostics, development, manufacturing or repair.
- Good understanding of finished vehicle logistics management
- Technical University degree
- Strong technical and analytical skills
- Written and spoken knowledge of English: capable to communicate and able to read and understand instructions and manuals.
- Thorough knowledge of quality systems and management experience
- Computer skills: Workshop Software, MS Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.)
