Let us describe the challenge we offer
The Vehicle Certification Engineer plays an important role in coordinating between our various global teams, ensuring the timely and accurate submission of documentation to regulatory bodies such as EPA and CARB. You will closely collaborate with Polestar’s global HQ team responsible for vehicle certification to obtain the required U.S. EPA Certificate of Conformity and CARB Executive Orders supporting vehicle model year launch activities. This role will be integral to Polestars successful certification and product launch in the North American market.
This role will be based on-site at our Mahwah, New Jersey headquarters and requires approximately 10-15% overnight travel as needed.
What you’ll do
- Act as the primary point of contact between Polestar and the relevant governmental agencies in the U.S. and Canada.
- Accountable for the forthcoming model year’s vehicle and fuel economy Federal and State government certification processes.
- Obtain Federal and State certification documents in a timely manner to satisfy product release criteria.
- Participate in product launch team activities to ensure a successful new vehicle introduction.
- Monitor all relevant government regulatory updates and activities as it relates to battery electric vehicle certification.
- Perform the necessary State and Federal government mandated battery electric vehicle fuel economy reporting requirements.
- Take lead in the submission process for all engineering/test data into government databases
- Participate in various industry meetings, US EPA/CARB government certification meetings and internal Polestar meetings as required.
- Manage our Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFÉ)/Greenhouse Gas/ZEV knowledge, calculations and reporting as needed.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory bodies through detailed documentation and reporting.
Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in vehicle certification activities with US EPA, CARB and Environment Canada.
- Demonstrated understanding of the automotive industry with prior experience coordinating with relevant regulatory agencies (EPA, CARB, etc.)
- Broad technical knowledge of automotive systems, concepts and components or design experience in automotive vehicle battery electric related components/systems including on-board diagnostic (OBDII) systems.
- Knowledge of vehicle certification lab procedures.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels of management.
